What A Mobile Adventure Gets Right

What A Mobile Adventure Gets Right

June 1, 2026 · Lukas Meinhardt

Phones are perfect for calm adventure games, and I don't think we say that enough. A game like Lantern Hollow, all exploration and atmosphere, fits the format beautifully. You play it in bed, in short pieces, and it never demands twitch reflexes.

The key ingredient is one-hand controls. Tap to move, tap to interact, no complicated gesture chains. When an adventure keeps its inputs simple, it frees you to actually look at the world instead of fighting the buttons.

Atmosphere carries these games. Sound design, art, small bits of writing you stumble on. Lantern Hollow's diary entries did more for me than any big cutscene, precisely because I found them on my own terms.

If you usually reach for action games, try a slow one on a tired evening. It's a different kind of satisfying, and phones are honestly the ideal place for it.
